Link building basic couldn’t be any simpler. First, choose a target site, and then acquire a link from said website. However, doing so takes a bit of time, effort, and patience. Acquiring an actual link can entail days – or weeks – of email exchanges between you and the site’s editor, or owner. One must take into account the time you spend building a wish list of sites, reviewing sites for relevant content, searching for contact information, and actually sending out emails. It could take days, or weeks before you earn yourself a backlink. But it’ll be worth it, especially if the backlink is a credible one.

A backlink – also called an inbound link – is an incoming link from one website to another. That is a link to an external site that links to your website. I imagine that number has grown tremendously since then. If your website is nowhere to be found in a search engine’s results page – or at least in the first couple of pages – it’s not going to be as visible as you’d like it to be. Link building allows you to increase your search rankings – making you easier to find, making your website more visible.
